THERION / Grave Digger / Sabaton

Therion will arrive to Poland for 2 concerts promoting their latest album. The Swedish group has already finished the recordings and is in the middle of working on the mixes, with the album premiere being planned for 12th January. Lately they were fantastically received as the headliners for Metalmania 2006. The Swedes will perform on 13th February in Krakow (Klub Studio) and the day after in Warsaw (Stodola).

Therion is considered the band that allowed symphonic groups with vocalists, using orchestral abilities during their recordings to emerge in the 90’s. Therion’s Christofer Johnson is a true force of nature, and the Polish audience always greets the band with a truly enthusiastic reception. Their last studio material, preceding the upcoming premiere, was released on two separate discs: “Sirius B” and “Lemuria”. In the production of this symphonic masterpiece 171 musicians were involved! Since Therion’s last visit in , in 2005 “Atlantis Lucid Dreaming” was released – a compilation of songs from the two LPs: “A’arab Zaraq – Lucid Dreaming” (1997) and “Crowning of Atlantis” (1999). The band was formed in 1987, bearing the name Blitzkrieg. A year after it took up its contemporary name. The debut album “Of Darkness” was released in 1991. At first Therion was noted as a creative death metal group, mainly because of releasing their album “Beyond Sanctorum” in 1992. They were ranked as an avant-garde group, appreciated by a strong underground audience. The third and fourth album brought along numerous experiments and a change in the line-up. As the core remained only the founder of the band and author of most of the lyrics, Christofer Johnsson. In 1996 the fifth album, ”Theli” was released, which turned out to be groundbreaking in their career. Therion’s style has been defined as symphonic opera metal, in which you could find some 70’s progressive rock, 80’s heavy metal, oriental music and many more themes. The band still had problems with the line-up and the album “Vovin”, released under Therion’s name, was in fact Christofer’s solo album. It was so far Therion’s biggest commercial success and was sold in Europe in over 125 000 copies. This is the first album where a real orchestra can be heard. The songs “Deggial” and “Secret of the Runes” are examples of an ingenious mixture of catchy metal with classical and opera music. From that moment the band’s line-up became solid, excluding the changes within drummers. In February the band will visit with the following line-up: Christofer Johnsson (guitars), Krystian Niemann (guitars) Johan Niemann (bass) Petter Karlsson (percussion).

Therion will be supported by Grave Digger and Sabaton.
